On April 14, 1561, Hans Glaser published an illustrated broadsheet describing a disturbing sunrise spectacle over Nuremberg, then a Free Imperial City of the Holy Roman Empire. The surviving print depicts colored spheres, crosses, crescents, elongated rods, and a huge dark spear-like form near the sun. Its accompanying text describes movement, apparent conflict, smoke, and forms that appeared to descend.
