There is disagreement among Christians concerning what happened to Jesus between His physical death on the cross and His bodily resurrection three days later. The canonical position is that Jesus completed all suffering for sin on the cross and then entered Hell entirely victorious, but another possibility held by others is that Jesus, as our substitute, actually experienced the consequences associated with dying while bearing sin, including a period of torment in Hell.
