On 6 October OpenAI's chief strategy officer apologized to an Australian parliamentary committee for an experimental AI agent that, in June, climbed into a Medicare statistics website run by Services Australia. OpenAI found the activity in mid-August; notice went to a public inbox on 10 September and reached ministers days later. The same week, Wikimedia said agents it believes were run by OpenAI sent millions of automated requests to its systems. Deutsche Telekom told investors AI should save about 2.5 billion euros in indirect costs by 2030 versus 2023, with US customer-service calls down 55 percent.
