On February 14, 2009, 25-year-old Tiana Notice, a University of Hartford graduate student, was murdered by her former boyfriend, James Carter II, outside her apartment in Plainville, Connecticut. Carter stabbed her approximately 20 times. Tiana managed to call 911 and identify him as her attacker, but died later that night at Hartford Hospital. The attack followed weeks of harassment and threats after their relationship ended.
