FBI Investigates Suspicious Letters Sent to Election Officials, Congressional Offices

The FBI, U.S. Postal Inspection Service and U.S. Capitol Police are investigating suspicious letters sent to election officials and congressional offices nationwide ahead of the Nov. 3 midterm elections. Some letters contained unidentified white powder, although preliminary tests on certain mailings have come back negative for dangerous substances. At least one envelope bore a return address previously associated with the Democratic Socialists of America, which denies any involvement.
