Minneapolis City Council to hear public comment on mayor's proposed budget

Minneapolis City Council members will take public input Monday on Mayor Jacob Frey’s proposed $2.6 billion budget for 2027. Frey is proposing cuts to about 100 positions and an 11 percent property tax hike to cover a $30 million shortfall. Xcel Energy is proposing to freeze its electricity rates for two years until 2028. In exchange, Xcel wants permission from state regulators to use federal tax credits from planned battery storage projects sooner than expected.
