The Department of Energy selected 31 SPARK reconductoring and grid enhancing technology projects on September 24, 2026, committing about $1.9 billion that startups can reach through utility recipients. Total project value reaches $5.25 billion because recipients contribute $3.35 billion, about 64 percent of the total. The projects will reconductor or rebuild more than 1,500 miles of line and apply grid enhancing technologies across nearly 21,000 miles, a ratio of about 14 to 1, for a stated gain of more than 23 GW.
